✨ The Throne of Lights: Imam Ali (AS) and the Secret of Divine Knowledge
🌿 The Hadith of the Throne of Lights
Imam Ali (AS), when asked by the Christian scholar Jathaliq about the Throne (‘Arsh) of Allah, revealed a mystery of creation and divine knowledge. He explained that:
-
Allah Himself carries the heavens, the earth, and all that is within them. Nothing can support Him.
-
The Throne (‘Arsh) was created from four lights:
-
🔴 Red light → the essence of redness.
-
🟢 Green light → the essence of greenness.
-
🟡 Yellow light → the essence of yellowness.
-
⚪ White light → the essence of whiteness, which is knowledge, the light of Allah’s greatness.
-
This white light, Imam Ali (AS) explained, is the vision granted to the hearts of believers. It is through this light that hearts are opened, sight is given to the soul, and the reality of Allah’s Names becomes manifest.
🪞 Knowledge as Manifest Light
This hadith shows us that creation itself is rooted in divine light, and that knowledge is the highest of these lights. It is not mere intellect, but the unveiling of truth within the soul:
-
The first nine letters (1–9) open inner vision – the heart perceives what the eyes cannot.
-
The next sequence (11–90) activates intellectual and cognitive understanding – the mind begins to connect truth to the soul.
-
At this stage, knowledge does not remain abstract. It becomes manifest in words, allowing proof, evidence, and explanation to arise.
Thus, Imam Ali’s (AS) words mirror the journey of knowledge in the Qur’an itself – from the hidden to the manifest, from light to form, from Names to speech.
🌌 Activation of the Divine Names
The colors of the Throne are not random. Each symbolizes a facet of Divine Names becoming active within the believer:
-
Red – strength, courage, sacrifice.
-
Green – life, renewal, guidance.
-
Yellow – clarity, illumination, discernment.
-
White (Knowledge) – the union of all, the light that unveils the Names in harmony.
When the intellect (11–90) aligns with inner vision (1–9), the soul begins to carry the Names. The heart becomes a Throne upon which Divine remembrance is inscribed, and knowledge becomes a living reality.
🌠 Reflection
This hadith teaches us that the Throne is not only a cosmic reality, but also a spiritual map for the believer. The “carrying of the Throne” by angels points to the activation of Divine Names within the soul through remembrance, reflection, and righteous action.
Allah preserves creation with His light, and He preserves our hearts with the same – if we open ourselves to it.
