From Hating Handwriting to Embracing Its Beauty: A Journey of Focus and Submission
How slowing down and focusing on the beauty of letters transformed not just my handwriting but my connection to the Divine.
From Hating Handwriting to Embracing Its Beauty: A Journey of Focus and Submission ✍️
For many years, I hated my handwriting. In fact, I always disliked it. I tried to change it, but never put in the time because I was too focused on the wrong things—rushing through tasks, believing I didn't have enough time. The thought of spending time on something as seemingly trivial as handwriting felt like a luxury I couldn’t afford.
But then, everything changed when I was guided to focus on the beauty of the letters—specifically after writing the Arabic names of Allah. It wasn't that I couldn't write beautifully; it was simply that I had never given myself the space to focus on it. The more I slowed down and really paid attention to each letter, each word, the more I realized: Like everything else in life, beauty requires attention, patience, and devotion.
This practice of slowing down and focusing not only transformed my handwriting but also led to something deeper—a submission of the body to the mind. As I focused on the details, I realized that handwriting is more than just writing—it's a form of artistic expression. Beautiful handwriting is the first step to becoming an artist, learning to look, slow down, and truly feel the creation.
We often overlook the power of the pen and its significance. Allah swears by the pen in the Quran, yet we often forget its sacred place in our lives. Until we give it its proper focus, we miss out on the deep connection that can come through something as simple as writing.
So, here’s my reflection: Handwriting is not just about forming words—it’s about forming connection. When we slow down, take our time, and focus on the beauty of the letters, we unlock more than just aesthetic value—we unlock a deeper understanding of ourselves and our connection to the Divine.
